New York New York
N.Y: This was a dream come true. Isn't it everyone's?! It wasn't the first time I'd been to New York but this time I was going with two other people from the salon.
We had been invited by BUMBLE, the amazing brand we work with, to take part in a course.
I have been on several courses in various parts of the world (England, France, Sweden, Switzerland etc) over my past 25 years as a hair stylist, including seminars on cutting and colouring hair as well as talks about products.
But this one was only about facts and figures – Oh my God, it sounded like a real drag!
At least we would be in the handsome BUMBLE building in the trendy Meat Packing District. I knew this was a really creative area and I would come away with plenty of new ideas.
It was also the chance to meet all the distributors of BUMBLE products in France, as this was the first time BUMBLE had organised a French-language workshop based in New York. There were translators and interpreters and we could see that they had gone to great lengths to make sure that everything was perfect (they had even bought an espresso machine for the occasion).
I won't go into the details of the course itself, but suffice to say it was one of the best courses I have ever been on. It was four really intense days during which we were given huge amounts of information and knowledge. At last, this is a company that treats us like business managers and not just simple 'hairdressers'.
I have never been on a course that has given me so much motivation with regards to the SALON.
After four really full-on days of work, we had the chance to go out. So naturally we did a lot of shopping at Soho Century 21 and in the Meat Packing District... We also crossed the Brooklyn Bridge, and saw the Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero...
We even came across a very New York kind of vegetarian restaurant that only serves raw food!
